Hi Doug, I was perusing the KJ site and came across your stuck intake valve thread. I got to thinking about it and wondered if you got it sorted out. Of course the big question is why....? The worst thing you can do to an engine is start it up and run it when there is old gas in the tank. It quickly leaves a coating of crap on the intake valve stems that turns to something like shellac and often will stick the valve open, even on old worn out guides. Of course if they are fitted well, it's even worse! I've seen entire engines trashed this way when somebody starts up a car that's been sitting for years with old gas in it. From there, it needs to come apart and get cleaned up. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- My number 1 valve on my KJ is stuck open. Any advice on getting it to drop back down without removing the intake manifold? I've soaked the valve stem with Kroil. Grasping the end of the valve stem is difficult as there isn't much metal exposed below the spring (which is fully compressed). Tapping it doesn't work either and I don't wish to bend the stem. |
