 I'm the one that makes the new henderson oil pans and gear
covers and I will be in the Belgium/Italy area the last two
weeks of July on bussiness.  Will there be any antique bike
events during that time that I may be able to get to in
those areas?  Russell.

I am very happy to hear of fellow Deluxe owners putting on
some miles on their bikes , they are great bikes to ride and
re usually very reliable , I've just come back from an old
American bike Rally in Holland , done just under 600 miles
with out any trouble apart from getting lost and although my
eluxe has later front end on (fitted many moons before I
got it) I still do as many miles on other US bikes that do
not have front brakes and as Kris says you have to look far
ahead , happy riding , Ken (England)

Well now you can hear directly from the big Nads Kris. I
guess I would just have to say I'm probably more stupid than
e average Henderson guy to do this sort of thing with the
old Deluxe. However, I do have to admit the many miles I
have put on the bike it has never failed me. I do try to
keep in in good running order and treat her with respect.
The way I look at it, this machine was intented to be ridden
d that is exactly what I always intend to do with it. As
far as only a rear brake...you just have to be a little
cautious and always keep your eyes ahead of your work.
Russel and I had a great time and hope we can do it again
sometime. It would be great to get other Henderson owners to
 the same. Happy motoring. Kris.

Sounds like a good time was had by all, Russell. Yeah, I'd
agree he has big ones if he took it out like that. One the
other hand, I guess he knows the bike well.

I was surprized but happy to have no trouble from my new
machine.  As far as the Deluxe, Chris must have very large
nads as he was not afraid to go anywhere on that bike with
NO tools, NO front brake and NO extra oil, he has a very
good machine.  I rode it for 15 miles and was very
comfortable on it but would install a front brake if it were
.  It was a good time to be a Henderson owner!

Nice write-up, Russell. Glad to hear your KJ is running
well. It's a fine looking bike in its old paint (white with
black frame).

On another note, I'm curious how someone like Chris manages
a long road run on an 81 year old bike with no front brake!

  The weather was perfect for throwing rocks at Harley's,
and I would have but I felt sorry for the owners as they had
 stacked against them already.  

 There were aproximately 100 bikes at the event here in the
lovely Ozark mountains.  The hills and turns were a true
stress test for the bikes and the riders.  We had one rider
go down due to road debris, the injuries have been reported
as only minor.

 The first day 155 miles was sunny and in the 90 degree
range which helped the non Henderson machines switch into
the automatic self destruct mode.  

 While refueling the Hederson riders were were told of an HD
aying in the yard of the gas station attendant.  We
got directions and the chase was on.  We ended up on a
gravel rode that was so steep we were throwing rocks in low
gear with our back tires in order to climb the hill.  We may
ven caught the sound of banjoe music.  We found the
bike that turned out to be an Allstate then promply returned
 run knowing we would not lose sleep over not checking
it out.

 The second day 208 miles was partly cloudy/overcast making
the ride plesant, the temp. was in the 80's.  The turn
around point was Eureka Springs Ark.

 The third day was 110 miles with mostly over cast skies
with only a few sprinkles.  We crossed the lake on a ferry,
the ride took about 15 minuets.

  The two Hendersons were a 29 KJ and a 23 Deluxe belonging
to myself and Chris Thompson respectively. The trusty red
Deluxe experienced a broken seat spring that was easily
repaired on the road and had no other problems.  

  My old paint but newly assembled KJ had 200 miles on it at
art of the run.  The new KJ oil pan (lower case) and
new KJ timing gear cover worked well.  I too had no
mechanical problems other than a venting issue with one gas
cap.  I would like to thank everyone who helped me locate
parts and Irv Truax for his moral support.
