The pistons most of us use are forgings. They are made of 2618 alloy. This is the toughest stuff you can get to deal with the heat. 2618 does have some short comings when you put it in a nasty old cast iron cylinder with limited cooling ability. It can't work to full potential. You think you can cool the top compression ring, but you can't. I could not either until I built Lord Vader. The top ring will give up the ghost. The piston on the left has 5000 miles with no oil jet. The one on the right came out of Darth Vader with 1200 miles on it. Armed with oil cannons with pressure regulation, I can cool the top of the piston, suck the heat out and not worry about oil pressure. The piston oil jets are like lightning in a bottle. I've had my best results ever with the oil jet engine. I think I'll probably have my pressure issue under control. I'll keep you posted. One thing I'll never have again is rings that fail and stained piston skirts. every four cylinder engine will see this mod eventually.
