Hi Mark,
Its my opinion that KJ cams were nothing more than high lift DeLuxe cams with more duration on the intake lobe. In doing this the factory ground the intake lobe and lost lift, to make up for this they increased the rocker ratio a tiny amount.(early rockers are 1:1) Secondly they needed to decrease intake lift to avoid side loading the intake valve.
In all the KL motors I have taken apart Some with late #'s, none of them had any different cams than ones in KJ engines. So I don't believe the factory actually used anything different in production line KL's, and KL's I beleive, were even stamped after bottom end assembly.
But I happen to have a cam marked 1931 KL that is NOS and had never been used as the keyway had not been cut yet. with this cam, along with some other designs of my own I had masters made for testing. Marty is one of a few people with this cam in his engine.
I think the KL cam I have was a factory experimental and may very well have been set for production in the 1932 season, but that was not to be.
Be carefull when you regrind a cam. The hardness is only from .005 to .015 deep, Most lobes are already worn beyond that. I tried to grind and heat treat (carborize) the High lift DeLuxe cams with no luck. Parkerizing seems to hold up pretty good after grinding.

Marty,Thanks for the compliments, much appricated,
