The short answer to your question is that if you do not have a DLX 76 I would deduct points. Try putting a brass DLX 65 on a '31 Indian four instead of pot metal 77 and see how fast the points come off by the Indian judges. This might sound harsh but a bike with the non-specified carb should not score the same as a bike that has the correct carb as that owner has gone the extra mile, and the extra expense to get the right equipment. Even if you found a Linkert list stating an M? was sold for KJ's and KL's, it still doesn't mean it was a factory part. I've seen Linkert lists with applications for replacements for other makes but it still doesn't make them legit for judging. As a case in point I like to run Schebler DLX 33 carbs on my Deluxes. They are far superior to Zeniths and I have original literature that shows they were period replacement carbs. There is an early version DLX 28 and a later version with a 40's #. However, there is no factory documentation saying they left on bikes from Cortland St. If I had a Deluxe judged, I would understand and accept the deduction.

There is something that needs to be remembered when judging any bike, or vehicle for that matter. The restoration is judged against the known original factory standard, not heresay, not period photograghs or somebody remembering something in 1969. etc., but what can best be identified from the brochures, parts books and factory info and other acceptible documentation. The other axiom is that one should not do anything controversial and make a judge have to think about it. Like it or not, when judging a bike, it has to be to the standard and not woulda, coulda, shoulda.

can anybody give some info of the use of a linkert M11 carb as found on my KJ
i am aware of the use of an schebler DLX-76 as described in some of the literature but was just wondering whether or not the M11 is some sort of replacement since i have not been able to find any reference whatsoever of its usage on other models or make,s
thanks for any input

A book called Henderson and His Motorcycles was published in 1969 by H.V. Eddy. In his book on page 29 is a discription of the KL and a few differences between KJ+nKL. Quote "An adaptor plate was used on the inlet manifold flange to take 1 1/4" carburettor. These K.L. jobs were fitted with the 1930 - 31 camshafts. The price was $30. more than theK.J. model.

Anyone what the corect carb for the KL is ?

Does AMCA judging except DLX 70 or 76 for the KL
