Hello Perry,

I concur with most of your dating. The first brochure had the same cover for 1922 and 1923. There are some slight differences. The '22 talks about Artley's and Bennett's demonstrations for the California police departments that were done with prototype models in I believe 1921. It also states this model is the "culmination of ten years....to build the ultimate in motorcycles". The centerfold is a collage of pictures of a solo and sidecar machine. The '23 version has a different intro and has a single solo view in the centerfold. The yellow cover is 1924, talking about Timken bearings announced in the trade magazines in early fall 1923. It states like '22 the "culmination of twelve years....." Next one is 1925 only, the last brochure without the Super X. Also says gray wheels. The next cover with the rider by the river and mountains is the same for 1926 and 1927 but the contents differ. The '26 version has an X with the cartridge fork front end and shows that the Henderson wheels are cream, one of the few small changes announced for the '26 models. I also have a trade magazine release from August 1925, also announcing this change for the '26 models. The tool box is still above the tank. The '27 brochure shows the X with a springer front end and the early dash on the Henderson. The '28 and '29 brochures are as you stated. Just to throw a comment in, the '28 brochure has a nice picture of the dash with the Weston 354 amp that appears to be +or- 15.

There is also an interesting 1929 KJ/X brochure that is in color showing a dark blue Henderson with painted engine cases (also blue). The 1930 brochure is the common blue and orange fold out. To date I've never seen a '31 brochure with the center mount headlight and the re-routed front brake cable. If someone has one I'd love to see it.

Sorry I can't post any pictures right now but if anyone is interested I can take some inside shots and send them through my regular email.

Since Henderson never dated their sales brochures it can be difficult to nail down exactly which year a brochure applies to. I know at least one memorabilia book mis-dates almost every DeLuxe brochure it shows. So I thought it would be useful if we could get agreement on what brochures cover which year(s). I made a "collage" of brochure covers (no I don't own them all (or even a majority of them), I save a lot of photos off eBay). So here's my best guess left to right. 1923 (possibly 22 too?). 1924. 1925 (short tank, maybe 26 and early 27 too?) Late 27. 1928. 1929 (duh). Does anyone have or know of a dealer brochure not illustrated? (I mean a real full issue motorcycle brochure, not like the balloon tire, or flying Henderson motors fold outs). Anyone agree or disagree with my best guess. Anyone have a better guess? ... Perry
