I think it was for been able to shoot while riding. Indian
braged al the time about it in their literature;particularly
in the special police issues. Even 
the well known H-D 45 Military, I rode one in the 1970's
also left handed(I am left handed,but I do not have to
shoot). While you would be shooting(as a motorcob)you have
to controle the throttle. It is only a thought guys?
